Smangaliso is a highly talented left-arm spinner from Ntuzuma on the northern outskirts of Durban in South Africa. A late starter in the game, Smangaliso didn’t pick up a cricket bat or ball until he was 16 years old, in grade 10. He is now one of the leading wicket-takers in South African domestic cricket.
Having been introduced to the game by a teacher at high school, where he was predominantly a soccer player, Smangaliso was identified a he was a natural talent and was quickly offered a cricket bursary to the prestigious Glenwood School where he was quick to make his mark. In his full full season of cricket, Smangaliso was included in the provincial U17 squad and has been involved at each age group for the province ever since. A capable lower order batsman, he has a best score of 42 to date in First Class cricket but his true talent lies with ball in hand where he has collected over 44 wickets in 25 games for his province to date.
Having been selected to attend the CSA National spin bowling camp in India in 2016, he hit the ground running at home, with a breakout summer in 2016-17, Smangaliso was in the top 10 bowlers in all One-Day competitions as well as in the leaderboards in the first class game as well, collecting 38 wickets in 19 games across all formats.
A real team man, Smangaliso will be a great pick up for a club seeking a genuine spin bowling strike weapon to join them for this summer.
